Canadian Family Sponsorship — Bring Your Family to Canada

Canadian citizens and permanent residents can sponsor eligible family members for permanent residency under the Family Class. Family sponsorship is one of Canada's most emotionally significant immigration pathways — and one where documentation errors and missing evidence cause the most preventable refusals.

Our Mississauga RCIC has handled hundreds of family sponsorship files, including spousal sponsorships, dependent child applications, and parent and grandparent sponsorships. We build comprehensive, well-documented applications that give visa officers exactly what they need to approve your file.

Family Sponsorship Streams We Handle

💕

Spouse & Common-Law Partner

Inland and outland spousal sponsorship. We build the genuineness of relationship package, handle Proof of Relationship evidence, and prepare for interviews if required.

👶

Dependent Child Sponsorship

Sponsor biological or adopted children under 22, or dependent adult children with disabilities. Age-lock rules are critical — we file correctly the first time.

👥

Parents & Grandparents (PGP)

IRCC runs an annual PGP sponsorship intake. We prepare your Interest to Sponsor, manage the MNI income requirement, and file the complete application.

🏠

Super Visa Alternative

When PGP timing doesn't work, the Super Visa allows parents and grandparents to visit Canada for up to 5 years per entry, valid 10 years total.

What SettleMate Handles for Your Family Sponsorship

Inland vs Outland Spousal Sponsorship — Which Is Right for You?

If your spouse is already in Canada on a valid temporary status (study permit, work permit, visitor record), you can apply under the inland stream. Your spouse can apply for a Spousal Open Work Permit at the same time, allowing them to work for any Canadian employer while the PR application is in progress.

If your spouse is outside Canada, the outland stream is used. Processing times vary but the sponsored spouse can typically continue visiting Canada during processing. Our RCIC advises on which stream fits your timeline and situation.

Frequently Asked Questions — Family Sponsorship Canada

How long does spousal sponsorship take in Canada?

IRCC targets 12 months for spousal and common-law partner sponsorships, though actual processing times vary. Inland applications with a concurrent open work permit are typically processed within 12 months. Outland applications depend on the visa office processing the file.

Can my spouse work in Canada while the sponsorship is being processed?

Yes — if applying under the inland stream, your spouse can simultaneously apply for a Spousal Open Work Permit, which allows them to work for any Canadian employer while waiting for PR.

What income do I need to sponsor my parents or grandparents?

PGP sponsors must meet the Minimum Necessary Income (MNI) — typically 30% above the Low Income Cut-Off (LICO) for their household size, for the 3 most recent consecutive tax years. Our RCIC calculates your specific MNI requirement at your assessment.

My common-law relationship is genuine but we have no marriage certificate — can I still sponsor?

Yes. Common-law partnerships are fully recognized under IRPA. You must demonstrate 12 consecutive months of cohabitation. Our RCIC builds a strong Proof of Relationship package using financial records, communication logs, photos, and statutory declarations.
